System designed for a slim and comfortable fit
Added Aramid fibers in the EPS core for added protection
POC Trabec Race MIPS
The POC Trabec Race MIPS. This new addition to the POC line of protective gear, this in-mold helmet is made especially for single track and enduro riding. The construction of the POC Trabec Race MIPS is borrowed from the human skeleton's structurally durable and resistant design. With an aramid reinforced EPS core this top-rated BMX and mountain bike helmet, the POC Trabec Race MIPS is basically bullet proof, except for the 16 aerodynamic vents, and just the toughest helmet around. The POC Trabec Race MIPS is designed to sit on top of the head like a skateboard helmet rather then around like more conventional bicycle helmets.
The POC Trabec Race MIPS model also has extra aramid reinforcements
ARAMID FIBER
Aramid fibers are a class of heat-resistant and strong synthetic fibers. They are used in aerospace and military applications, for ballistic rated body armor fabric and ballistic composites.
EPS: Expanded Polystyrene
EPS will deform permanently on impact and is therefore not suitable to absorb repetitive shocks. Meaning, essentially that an EPS liner will break, distributing the force from the impact throughout the mountain bike helmet.
The POC Trabec vs. The Trabec Race / What's the difference?
The difference between the POC Trabec and the POC Trabec Race is negligible and either way you are getting a top-rated piece of BMX and mountain bike protective gear from POC. The price difference is attributed to the additional aramid fibers in the EPS core of the POC Trabec Race BMX and mountain bike helmet. The POC Trabec Race contains additional aramid fiber reinforcements which allow for a stronger liner to withstand greater impacts during a crash.
The POC TRABEC RACE MIPS also includes the added safety feature of MIPS technology.
MIPS Protection System
In a helmet with MIPS technology the shell and the liner are separated by a low friction layer. When a helmet with MIPS technology is subjected to an oblique impact, the low friction layer allows can slide along a membrane on the inner surface of the liner. Experimental tests have shown a significant reduction of the forces to the brain in helmets using MIPS safety technology.
